SAMO pairs a 640 x 512 radiometric Boson thermal core with a 64 MP visible camera in the Teledyne FLIR Hadron 640R module, on a stabilized gimbal made for the ACSL SOTEN. ACSL describes SAMO as NDAA-compliant, and Teledyne FLIR lists the Hadron 640R as ITAR-free.

SAMO is built around the Teledyne FLIR Hadron 640R module: a 640 x 512 radiometric Boson thermal core with a 32° field of view, paired with a 64 MP, 1/2-inch visible camera with a 67° field of view. In the TAKEOFF app you can view thermal and visible side by side or picture-in-picture, with 10 thermal color palettes.

Radiometric capture

Temperature data saved with every thermal still

Thermal stills are saved as radiometric JPEGs (RJPEG), so you can read temperatures from the image after the flight. Thermal video records at 640 x 512 and 30 fps. On the visible side, SAMO shoots 64 MP or 16 MP stills and 4K video at 60 or 30 fps, with 20x digital zoom for a closer look without repositioning.

Built for SOTEN

Swap in thermal when the mission calls for it

SAMO connects to the SOTEN camera mount and is powered and controlled through the aircraft. Its gimbal is stabilized on three axes, with -90 to +10° of pitch and ±90° of yaw under your control. The payload itself is rated IP44; ACSL rates the SOTEN aircraft IP43 with camera, gimbal and battery installed.

Fits the ACSL SOTEN only. The aircraft is sold separately.
Cameras are installed and removed with the aircraft powered off. SAMO is not hot-swappable.
The 20x zoom is digital. The visible camera uses a fixed 4.8 mm lens.
SAMO is rated for 14 to 122°F (-10 to 50°C); the SOTEN aircraft is rated -4 to 104°F (-20 to 40°C). Plan to the tighter limit.
ACSL's current SAMO specifications list side-by-side and picture-in-picture thermal views. MSX image blending, announced in 2025, is not listed yet.

Frequently asked questions

Which drones does SAMO fit?

SAMO is made for the ACSL SOTEN only. It attaches to the SOTEN camera mount and is controlled from the TAKEOFF app.

Is the 20x zoom optical?

No. ACSL lists 20x digital zoom. The 64 MP visible camera uses a fixed 4.8 mm lens.

Can it measure temperatures?

Yes. The thermal camera is radiometric and saves stills as radiometric JPEGs, so temperatures can be read from the image after the flight.

Can I swap cameras with the drone powered on?

No. ACSL requires the aircraft to be powered off before a camera is installed or removed.

Is SAMO NDAA-compliant?

ACSL describes SAMO as NDAA-compliant, and Teledyne FLIR lists the Hadron 640R module as ITAR-free. We have not confirmed a Blue UAS listing for SOTEN, so if your program requires one, call us before you order.

Does SAMO support MSX image blending?

ACSL announced MSX support in 2025, but the current SAMO specifications list only side-by-side and picture-in-picture thermal views.
