MPPT controllers get more energy out of each panel than PWM, especially in cold weather and low light. They also let a high-voltage panel string charge a low-voltage battery.

Buyer tip: Add up your string’s open-circuit voltage (Voc) at your coldest expected temperature. Voc rises in the cold, and it must stay under the controller’s maximum PV input voltage.
