The AVSS PRS-M4S adds autonomous failure detection, flight termination and an energetic-deployment parachute to the DJI Matrice 4E and 4T. The FAA has accepted Declarations of Compliance for both aircraft with the PRS-M4S for Category 2 operations over people.

Autonomous triggering

Detects the failure and deploys in under half a second

An onboard Autonomous Triggering System watches flight conditions and fires the energetic-charge Parachute Pod automatically, with deployment in under 0.5 seconds. It arms at 40 m (131 ft). You can also trigger it from your DJI controller through the PSDK interface once the drone is above 5 m (16.4 ft), and an independent power source lets it deploy even if the drone loses power.

Flight termination

Stops the motors so the canopy opens clean

The plug-and-play flight termination system cuts motor power through DJI PSDK before the canopy opens, reducing the chance of entanglement. At the 1.37 kg (3.02 lb) maximum takeoff weight, AVSS measures an average descent of 3.80 m/s (12.47 ft/s) and 9.88 J (7.29 ft-lb) of impact energy. The whole system weighs 149 g (5.26 oz) and logs flight data internally.

FAA-accepted for Category 2

The FAA has accepted Declarations of Compliance for Category 2 operations over people for the DJI Matrice 4T (OOP000000214) and Matrice 4E (OOP000000215) with the PRS-M4S. It is tested to ASTM F3322 and ships with documentation for ASTM F3322, EASA MOC 2512 and other civil aviation authority submissions. For operations over people, fly at 40 m (131 ft) or higher and within the 13.4 mph Category 2 wind limit.

Installation

Mounts on the PSDK port and charges from the drone

The PRS-M4S arrives assembled, with its mounting hardware in an accessories bag. An integrated bracket and screws secure it to the PSDK port on top of the Matrice 4E or 4T without interfering with onboard sensors. It powers on with the drone and charges from it, so there is no separate battery routine.

Before you buy

Fit, warranty and service terms

  • Fits the DJI Matrice 4E and 4T only. The Matrice 4D and 4TD use a different AVSS model.
  • FAA-accepted for Category 2 operations over people only, not Category 3.
  • One-year AVSS warranty from the invoice date. Each unit is rated for a maximum of two deployments.
  • After a deployment the unit goes back to AVSS with its logs for analysis (up to 10 business days). Non-reusable parts may be billed to the owner.
  • The parachute must be repacked every 12 months, at the owner's cost.
  • Not IP rated, and the warranty does not cover water damage. Do not fly with propeller guards installed.
  • AVSS requires you to register the unit before use.

Which drones does this parachute fit?

The PRS-M4S fits the DJI Matrice 4E and 4T. The Matrice 4D and 4TD use a different AVSS model, the PRS-M4DT.

Does it allow flights over people?

The FAA has accepted Declarations of Compliance for the Matrice 4E and 4T with the PRS-M4S for Category 2 operations over people. It is not accepted for Category 3. Fly at 40 m (131 ft) or higher over people, and meet the rest of the FAA's requirements.

How does it detect a failure?

An onboard Autonomous Triggering System monitors flight conditions, cuts the motors and deploys the parachute without pilot input. You can also trigger it manually from your DJI controller through PSDK.

What happens after a deployment?

The unit goes back to AVSS with its flight logs for analysis, which can take up to 10 business days, and non-reusable parts may be billed to the owner. Each unit is rated for a maximum of two deployments.
